mAKE MEMORIES TOGETHER

When I photograph couples, my favorite moments are NEVER the perfectly posed ones. The best images aren't the ones where couples are just standing and smiling at the camera. The real magic happens when couples are interacting, laughing, and genuinely enjoying a shared moment together (those are my FAVORITE). That's why incorporating activities in photoshoots is such a game changer! Whether it's going on a hike, brewing coffee, skipping rocks, or sharing a blanket together, those little in-vetween moments tell the most genuine story.

Recently, I photographed a sweet couple visiting the Smoky Mountains for the very first time. Instead of just standing and smiling for the camera, we turned their session into a cozy mini adventure. They explored the rivers edge and made coffee together on a quiet picnic table, laughed over a camp stove, and looked over park maps while finding places they've already explored.

It was relaxed, slow, and filled with laughter - exactly how a couple session should feel.

Why add an activity?

Adding an activity to your photoshoot not only gives you something to do (NO awkward: "what do I do now?" moments), but it also creates real memories instead of just pretty pictures. Things that cannot be staged, like smiles, inside jokes, and shared looks.

  • Creates Storytelling in Motion: Every activity tells a story. The photos become become memories, not just pictures
  • Adds Variety and Depth: Photos that include movement or interaction feel dynamic by making the session fun and engaging so you feel more relaxed in front of the camera.
  • Easier Connection with the Camera: A lot of people feel camera shy, and that's completely normal. Doing an activity, even as simple as skipping rocks helps take the focus off being "perfect on camera". You'll feel more like yourselves and in return being more comfortable in front of the camera.

Outdoorsy activities

  • Making coffee or hot chocolate together
  • Going for a short hike
  • Reading a map or planning a hike
  • Packing a picnic or cooking campfire snacks
  • Exploring trails, creeks, or overlooks
  • Snuggling under a blanket
  • Having a campfire
  • Camping together
  • Skipping rocks at the river or lake
  • Sharing a drink on the cabin porch
  • Reading or journaling together
  • Fishing together
  • Lounging in hammocks

The options are endless.

Every couple has their own rhythm, and adding an activity helps me capture your authenticity as a couple. Those photos are full of laughter, movement, and connection. That's what I want every couple to feel when they look back at their gallery.

So when you book your next session, think about what you love doing together. Even the most simple moments can turn into your favorite photos.
